M.M. | Willing vs. Wishing & The Fault In The Law Of Attraction

April 19, 2017

“Willing is greater than wishing.”

In recent years there’s been a lot buzz surrounding what everyone calls the “Law of Attraction”. The Law of Attraction is the belief that you attract what you envision and focus your conscious mind on. There are countless stories of people who claim that their success is due to this concept. While this idea and thought process can be extremely beneficial, and seemingly effective, there’s a flaw in it that some of us will overlook.

The fact is, we focus on a goal with our minds, we can follow Napoleon Hill’s advice and Think and do our damndest to Grow Rich, but at the end of the day. Thinking, focusing, and wishing for or on an outcome on its own is not enough. There must be, has to be, and it is absolutely essential that there is action behind those thoughts. We can wish and dream all day, but until we stand up and take the reins, none of it will come to fruition.

But how? We all know what we want, but so many of us have no idea how to get there.

One word: education. An Ivy League college, thousands of Google searches, what ever “education” is to you, and what ever it takes to get you where you want to be. Learn about all that which interests you. There’s something more to this too, and that is, learn about yourself. Get out and take jobs, quit jobs, get new ones, get mentors, Travel, start a business, take a chance on that relationship, eat some bomb ass food. Just get out and experience. Promise us this though, promise you won’t let a day go by that you don’t remind yourself to have fun with it all.

Today is the day, today is your day.

M.M. | We’re So Guilty…

April 16, 2017

“Pick up the phone and call someone you love today.”

When was the last time anyone used their phone… as an actual phone and called someone? Then, when was the last time that that phone call was simply to tell someone you loved them? Yeah don’t worry, we’re guilty too…

So how about this, instead of reading this, exit out right now and call someone you love. Do it for no reason! See how they are, catch up, make some plans to finally get together, and make an effort to keep those amazing people you call friends and family in your lives.

Today is the day.

Jefferson Goldie | Just Having Fun

April 14, 2017

Chicago listeners! Where you at!? We’ve got one of your very own in the house today. It’s our pleasure to welcome the one and only, Jefferson Goldie.

No matter what he’s doing, Jefferson’s straight tearing it up. First and foremost, he’s always had a knack for entertaining. At an early age he dreamed of becoming a MLB player. After qualifying for a scholarship to Memphis, he found out he’d be red-shirted and passed on the opportunity. In the time following, music became a passion of Jefferson’s, which ultimately lead him to create and form his very own band called Trainwreck Symphony. However, his ambitions didn’t stop there.

After years of running the band, through a series of events, Jefferson was offered a spot on TV, on Chicago’s WCIU The U. Though, even after this huge opportunity came into his life, music still continues to be a passion. He plays in three different cover bands, has played in some of the most recognized venues in Chicago, and continues to do so today. On top of that, he manages life at home and creates hilarious videos on social media, one of which has gone viral and was shared by Amiri King, now boasting over 300k views.

You’ll notice that Jefferson has had a number of passions and directions throughout life. We go in depth on this topic and talk about what’s it’s like to go through the process of changing one’s dreams and aspirations. We talk about the moments we realize what we’ve been chasing isn’t in the cards, and how to recognize those moments. We jump into the idea of simply doing and becoming what you want, and not what others expect you to do or become.

We cover it all in depth and more in this kick ass episode of Forge Your Potential.

Today is the day.

M.M. | Defining What’s Truly Important & Unlocking Our True Potential

April 12, 2017

“A beautiful thing happens when two people decide to give one another their best.”

If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve gone far enough through life to know that if you half ass anything…that you’ll get half ass results. Call us crazy, but we want the full booty! Haha today’s Motivational Minute was inspired by this concept, specifically regarding relationships. Because how many of you have experienced half ass relationships at some point…? (everyone raises hands). However, this idea is applicable to our lives in almost every aspect.

Apart from the obvious benefits of giving our best, there are some underlying benefits that we didn’t realize at first when we thought about this concept in depth. Of course, in giving our best, we’re able to lay our heads down at night knowing we gave the day your best efforts. Of course our hard and focused work will pay off. But something we didn’t consider, was, when was the last time you gave your best to something you didn’t truly want? The answer is the same for everyone: never. No one has ever given their best to something they didn’t truly want. Whether that be a career, or an individual.

Wholeheartedly giving our best only happens when we’re focused on what’s truly important to us. That means we have to define what’s important to us, and there’s something exceptionally beautiful about that. Especially when that something is another human being. Life pulls so many of us in so many directions, it really does take a conscious effort, to at least some degree, to focus on and give attention to what’s important to us. But simply defining and focusing on what matters most isn’t everything. We have to take action. So whether it’s a relationship, a goal, or a dream, if it’s something truly important to us, let us give it our best. Not just today, but for all days. Not only because that’s what we should do, but because that’s what we deserve. Here’s to keeping relationships, goals, and dreams alive.

Today is the day.

M.M. | What Social Media Should be

April 9, 2017

In today’s Motivational Minute here on Forge Your Potential, we did it a bit differently. We didn’t use a post from our daily posts on social media. Instead, we felt compelled to focus on and highlight various aspects of this swift moving storm that’s caught us all off guard: Social Media itself.

Like us, you all might notice some of the issues that have arose because of social media. Bullying, large amounts of negativity and conflict, the spreading of misinformation, the lists of social media negatives are long. The problem is, these issues and negative aspects of social media, don’t stay on social media. They invade our lives, our relationships, our communities, our emotions, and even our jobs. How did we get here to this place where we waste hours per week scrolling through mindless content, or moments we could have lived ourselves? How did we get to this place where validity is judged only by the number of followers one has? A place where we so often choose to immerse ourselves in these negative aspects of the experience?

The answer is simple.

The majority of us utilize social media as entertainment. What so many of us have failed to see is the true potential for the influence of good that social can produce. While using social media as a source of entertainment, we’ve neglected to see it as and to use it as, a tool. In a way, social media is a lot like money, enhancing certain aspects of our characters. If we’re self absorbed, it’s selfie central. If we’re humble, we hesitate to post anything that might be construed as boasting, if we post anything at all. But it all happens without us usually ever truly realizing it as it happens. We’ve all seen first hand the infinite possibilities that social media has to affect influence. But maybe, just maybe, we should get off the sidelines and get in the game. Meaning, we should stop just watching and reading the good, we should start being a part of the good, by sharing it with your loved ones, by creating or producing our own videos or blog posts. Get off the sidelines, and be a part of a catalyst for positive change and influence. Social media is your tool and it’s free, simple to use, and everyone is on it. Let us all stop being spectators and start playing the game as influencers and as leaders. Let us all start recognizing and acting on the true potential of what social media could be.

Today is the day.

Lawrence Carson | Living With Intention, Asking Questions, & Passionately Seeking Answers

April 7, 2017

We go places in this episode of Forge Your Potential that we’ve never been before. Not physically, not politically, but mentally and philosophically. We can thank our guest, Lawrence Carson for that. This is an episode you’ll want to stop what you’re doing so that you can listen and keep up with the topics and subjects we cover. You might even want to schedule some time to think, ponder, and reflect after listening to this episode. It’s that deep.

Lawrence shares a bit of his story and what’s brought him to this place of enlightenment. Almost immediately however, we jump into the discussion. From the defining of intellect, to Leonardo Da Vinci’s ‘Mind States’, to the power of not only asking questions but passionately seeking the answers, we go all out. A really interesting concept we bring up in this episode is, to not only know or understand answers to questions you have, but truly being at one with answers. Lawrence elaborates on this concept among a number of others such as breaking conditioned cycles of beliefs that have been ingrained in us by society, the beauty of simply experiencing and living in the moment, the importance of living with intention, and more.

If there was ever a day to challenge your perspectives, it’s today, and it’s in this episode. Listen in, and as Lawrence would say, decorate your soul. Life, what Lawrence calls the University of Learning, is a beautiful and incredible experience, and so many of us are only ever seeing a fraction of the real beauty that out there. We realized that as active as we are in the space of philosophy, there very well just might be a lot we’re missing that we could be enjoying. Tune in and get ready to expand your perspective.

Today is the day.

M.M. | Nothing Wrong With Feeling A Little Pride

April 5, 2017

“Name one of your proudest moments.”

On the Forge Your Potential Podcast, we’ve talked a few times about the importance of celebrating our victories, small or large. Victories are one thing, but what has been one of your proudest moments? It just might be one of those victories you’ve had, or you might find that it’s a moment in your life that you’ve completely overlooked.

In today’s Motivational Minute, we share with you all our very own moments in our lives where we felt most proud. Being so focused on the impact we have and can have on those around us, it’s always different for us to turn around and look at ourselves. You listeners and fans out there in the Forge Your Potential Legion might have the same experience. We’re almost encouraged it seems to neglect to acknowledge moments that we feel proud of ourselves. Like noticing times we feel good about ourselves is in some way selfish or self absorbed. As with all things of course, everything in moderation.

Take a moment today though, no matter what, and look back at your victories, look back at your accomplishments and your good deeds. Take a moment and reflect on what you’ve felt most proud about in your life. Better yet, take it a step further and share with someone else what you’re most proud of them for having accomplished or done. Let’s begin a perpetual cycle of proud moments in hopes of inspiring others like them.

Today is the day.

M.M. | Reminding Ourselves Where We’ve Come From & The Power Of Looking Back

April 2, 2017

“It’s not the distance we have left to go. It’s the progress we’ve made today.”

We’re constantly wanting more, always looking to that goal we have yet to reach; our minds always on the future. We’re told that looking back is always a bad idea and should be avoided like the plague. Charging ahead and not dwelling on the past can be beneficial, but if we constantly focus so hard on the future, we can condition ourselves in such a way that is just as detrimental as dwelling on the past. For the sake of balance and our ultimate success, something we should remind ourselves is to appreciate what we’ve accomplished.

We should appreciate the steps we’ve taken and the progress we’ve made today. If we constantly look to the future, it’s easy to fall into the trap of always focusing on how far we have left to go. We’ve talked about this concept on the Forge Your Potential podcast a number of times - we should never hesitate to celebrate our victories. Large or small, the recognition of accomplishments can help combat one of the most annoying feelings ever, the feeling of being stagnant. We desire progress in every aspect of our lives and when we feel like we’re not moving forward, it can kill our motivation, our ambition, our creativity, and worse, it can destroy dreams that we’ve worked on for years.

So remember to look back today. Not to dwell on or think about what could have been. But look back and remind yourself where you’ve come from. Look at some of the accomplishments and the progress you’ve made. What are some of your proudest moments in the past year? When did you feel the most accomplishment? And remember, it’s not always about the goal and how much more we have left to go before we reach it, it’s also about the difference and the lives we change today.

Today is the day.

Brandon Wright | The Man of Action

March 31, 2017

There will be those individuals out there that at the end of their lives will look back and wish they had taken action. They'll look back wondering what could have been, had only they given their best. Our guest this week on Forge Your Potential will not be among those individuals. Instead, he will be among those who at the end of their lives, will only be concerned with what's next. It's our pleasure to introduce radio personality, father, published author, and entrepreneur, Brandon Wright.

Taking action in one’s life is just one of the number of subjects we address in this episode. A lot of us in this day and age will complain about our days, our situations, the situations we see others facing, and everyone’s favorite… politics. But when was the last time we took action to influence change in something we see as being wrong in the world? On the flip side of that, when was the last time we took action to appreciate something we liked? Whether it be a positive review for a restaurant with great food and service, or a product you bought that lived up to and exceeded all of your expectations, these small gestures of showing gratitude and appreciation, it’s important to take action on both the good and the bad.

Brandon also shares with us his three most favorite words: fun, freedom, and profit. He explains each word individually and explains why each is so important to him. On top of that, we cover everything from being true to who you are, the importance of communication, how essential hard work is for building discipline, building business, and more. Be sure to check out Brandon’s books by clicking the links below.
