M.M. | The Equation to Accomplish Anything

April 26, 2017

“Knowledge, plus understanding, plus implementation, is the equation to accomplish anything.”

We as human beings seem to like to complicate things more than they should be. No matter how straightforward something is, we make excuses, we overthink, and we overanalyze. Not only that, it’s so easy for us to get caught up in all the little details. There may be a day when you overthink, overanalyze, and make excuses… but it tis’ not this day! Ok we’re done playing off quotes from the Lord of the Rings… But let today be a reminder for simplicity. So let’s take a step back for a minute.

What is it that you want to do or accomplish with your life? Now the big question, how are you going to do it? Seriously, what are the steps you’re taking today, tomorrow, and so on to get you there? This is where so many of us shut down. It’s overwhelming to look up at the peak of a mountain when you’re down at the base. We look at our goal, all the steps we know it’s going to take, and all of the time we know it will take. Ultimately driving ourselves to a place where we’re asking ourselves, “how in the hell am ever going to do this”. Feeling anxious yet? That’s ok, because feeling anxious isn’t the end of all things, and we have a remedy for that angst.

First, we get anxious about what we don’t know. So let’s educate ourselves. Again, how are we going to climb that mountain? What supplies do we need? What plants are edible? Are there clean sources of drinking water on our route? Once we know what it will take, it removes that aspect of mystery and the unknown. We can then move on to truly understanding what it will take. Knowing and understanding are two different concepts. Understanding is being able to, without question, put into action what we know. Which takes us to our last and final step. We have Knowledge, we have Understanding, the only thing left to do in order for us to accomplish our goals, is to implement. Action is just about the most important aspect of the entire equation. How many of you know someone who knows much, but has done very little? Action is what will separate you from accomplishing your goals, or living a life full of what if’s. Separate yourself from the chaos and anxiety of looking at the entire mountain, and focus on the few simple steps you need to take to make it to the top.

Today is the day.

M.M. | Freedom Through Challenge

April 23, 2017

“All I am doing is making the conscious choice to perceive challenges as something beneficial.”
- Jim Carrey

This incredibly insightful quote from Jim Carrey, highlights for us all that yet again, it’s all about perspective.

How many of us get caught up in our day to day lives, seeing life as it happens to us, never questioning how it is we’re actually looking at those things that are happening? How many of us just see life as happening to us!? Tony Robbins has brought up a great point about this concept: what if we stopped looking at life as something that is happening to us, and instead looking at life as something that is happening FOR us? What if you looked at challenges as something that was happening for you, instead of something that was holding you back? Something truly incredible happens in this shift of our perspective.

That something is freedom. Once we begin seeing opportunity in and being grateful for what most would call challenges and obstacles, we’re free. A huge weight is lifted from our shoulders as challenges are now simply stepping stones, instead of hindrances. No longer do we worry about adversity and challenge, instead we greet them with a firm handshake and a smile that says, “good to see you again”.

There’s something else too that’s incredibly freeing about this concept as well, and that’s the simple fact that we have made the choice to change the way we view something. It was our CHOICE. Again, most times we think things in life are absolute, we wouldn’t even begin to assume that we have a choice when it comes to our feelings, our situations, and how we react to them. What an amazing thing it is to have the ability to grow and to decide to make a conscious choice about how we feel, or how we see someone, or how we see a situation.

What choice will you make next time you’re confronted with what seems like a challenge? Smile and shake hands? Or retreat, and let fear win the war? The choice is yours, but if we find out that you’ve treated our friend Challenge wrong… we’ll hack your instagram and post those photos from that little Vegas trip you took with the crew… Yeah, those photos… lol!

Until next time gang!

Today is the day.

Let us start by saying, that there is nothing wrong with rocking a 9-5, there a ton of benefits in fact. If you enjoy your 9-5 and you’re loving life, skip this episode entirely and pass it on to someone who isn’t digging the 9-5 lifestyle. There are those of us who know deep down, that there is no job to which we can be employed, that we’ll feel truly fulfilled. We’ve been there, going job to job, seeking advancement, higher pay, better opportunities, and the like, only to find out that none of those aspects actually satisfy us. We need and desire something different, not something more really, but something more to us.

If you’re still reading this, there’s a huge possibility that you woke up today unexcited. If that is you, we know, and we know that you know, that something has to change. Life is a beautiful, incredible, amazing opportunity, and it’s damn short to not love every second of it. You deserve to wake up excited for your day. Let’s be honest, if we’re living life absent of fulfillment, a lot of us aren’t even excited for the weekend. Because all the weekend is, is another week gone that you weren’t doing what you want to do, and there’s another week heading your way of the exact same thing. Now imagine that every week for rest of your career and working life. It’s fucking terrifying isn’t it? This scares you because you know you were meant for more, and again, you deserve that something. You deserve to wake up every day like a kid on Christmas morning. Excited, full of life, bursting with happiness, excited for the unknown and the infinite positive possibilities for the day. We’re here today to help stoke that fire.

Today we cover 8 steps that you can take to saying goodbye to your 9-5. We talk getting started, the journey, and what success really means. The mental aspects, the physical, we cover it all to help you uncover your true potential, so that you can answer that higher calling. Let this week be the beginning of your journey, or a shot in the arm for those of you in the middle of it. Let this day be a reminder to you that anything is possible, that nothing is out of reach, and that you deserve your dreams.

We’ll be in touch!

M.M. | Willing vs. Wishing & The Fault In The Law Of Attraction

April 19, 2017

“Willing is greater than wishing.”

In recent years there’s been a lot buzz surrounding what everyone calls the “Law of Attraction”. The Law of Attraction is the belief that you attract what you envision and focus your conscious mind on. There are countless stories of people who claim that their success is due to this concept. While this idea and thought process can be extremely beneficial, and seemingly effective, there’s a flaw in it that some of us will overlook.

The fact is, we focus on a goal with our minds, we can follow Napoleon Hill’s advice and Think and do our damndest to Grow Rich, but at the end of the day. Thinking, focusing, and wishing for or on an outcome on its own is not enough. There must be, has to be, and it is absolutely essential that there is action behind those thoughts. We can wish and dream all day, but until we stand up and take the reins, none of it will come to fruition.

But how? We all know what we want, but so many of us have no idea how to get there.

One word: education. An Ivy League college, thousands of Google searches, what ever “education” is to you, and what ever it takes to get you where you want to be. Learn about all that which interests you. There’s something more to this too, and that is, learn about yourself. Get out and take jobs, quit jobs, get new ones, get mentors, Travel, start a business, take a chance on that relationship, eat some bomb ass food. Just get out and experience. Promise us this though, promise you won’t let a day go by that you don’t remind yourself to have fun with it all.

Today is the day, today is your day.

M.M. | We’re So Guilty…

April 16, 2017

“Pick up the phone and call someone you love today.”

When was the last time anyone used their phone… as an actual phone and called someone? Then, when was the last time that that phone call was simply to tell someone you loved them? Yeah don’t worry, we’re guilty too…

So how about this, instead of reading this, exit out right now and call someone you love. Do it for no reason! See how they are, catch up, make some plans to finally get together, and make an effort to keep those amazing people you call friends and family in your lives.

Today is the day.

Jefferson Goldie | Just Having Fun

April 14, 2017

Chicago listeners! Where you at!? We’ve got one of your very own in the house today. It’s our pleasure to welcome the one and only, Jefferson Goldie.

No matter what he’s doing, Jefferson’s straight tearing it up. First and foremost, he’s always had a knack for entertaining. At an early age he dreamed of becoming a MLB player. After qualifying for a scholarship to Memphis, he found out he’d be red-shirted and passed on the opportunity. In the time following, music became a passion of Jefferson’s, which ultimately lead him to create and form his very own band called Trainwreck Symphony. However, his ambitions didn’t stop there.

After years of running the band, through a series of events, Jefferson was offered a spot on TV, on Chicago’s WCIU The U. Though, even after this huge opportunity came into his life, music still continues to be a passion. He plays in three different cover bands, has played in some of the most recognized venues in Chicago, and continues to do so today. On top of that, he manages life at home and creates hilarious videos on social media, one of which has gone viral and was shared by Amiri King, now boasting over 300k views.

You’ll notice that Jefferson has had a number of passions and directions throughout life. We go in depth on this topic and talk about what’s it’s like to go through the process of changing one’s dreams and aspirations. We talk about the moments we realize what we’ve been chasing isn’t in the cards, and how to recognize those moments. We jump into the idea of simply doing and becoming what you want, and not what others expect you to do or become.

We cover it all in depth and more in this kick ass episode of Forge Your Potential.

Today is the day.

M.M. | Defining What’s Truly Important & Unlocking Our True Potential

April 12, 2017

“A beautiful thing happens when two people decide to give one another their best.”

If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve gone far enough through life to know that if you half ass anything…that you’ll get half ass results. Call us crazy, but we want the full booty! Haha today’s Motivational Minute was inspired by this concept, specifically regarding relationships. Because how many of you have experienced half ass relationships at some point…? (everyone raises hands). However, this idea is applicable to our lives in almost every aspect.

Apart from the obvious benefits of giving our best, there are some underlying benefits that we didn’t realize at first when we thought about this concept in depth. Of course, in giving our best, we’re able to lay our heads down at night knowing we gave the day your best efforts. Of course our hard and focused work will pay off. But something we didn’t consider, was, when was the last time you gave your best to something you didn’t truly want? The answer is the same for everyone: never. No one has ever given their best to something they didn’t truly want. Whether that be a career, or an individual.

Wholeheartedly giving our best only happens when we’re focused on what’s truly important to us. That means we have to define what’s important to us, and there’s something exceptionally beautiful about that. Especially when that something is another human being. Life pulls so many of us in so many directions, it really does take a conscious effort, to at least some degree, to focus on and give attention to what’s important to us. But simply defining and focusing on what matters most isn’t everything. We have to take action. So whether it’s a relationship, a goal, or a dream, if it’s something truly important to us, let us give it our best. Not just today, but for all days. Not only because that’s what we should do, but because that’s what we deserve. Here’s to keeping relationships, goals, and dreams alive.

Today is the day.

M.M. | What Social Media Should be

April 9, 2017

In today’s Motivational Minute here on Forge Your Potential, we did it a bit differently. We didn’t use a post from our daily posts on social media. Instead, we felt compelled to focus on and highlight various aspects of this swift moving storm that’s caught us all off guard: Social Media itself.

Like us, you all might notice some of the issues that have arose because of social media. Bullying, large amounts of negativity and conflict, the spreading of misinformation, the lists of social media negatives are long. The problem is, these issues and negative aspects of social media, don’t stay on social media. They invade our lives, our relationships, our communities, our emotions, and even our jobs. How did we get here to this place where we waste hours per week scrolling through mindless content, or moments we could have lived ourselves? How did we get to this place where validity is judged only by the number of followers one has? A place where we so often choose to immerse ourselves in these negative aspects of the experience?

The answer is simple.

The majority of us utilize social media as entertainment. What so many of us have failed to see is the true potential for the influence of good that social can produce. While using social media as a source of entertainment, we’ve neglected to see it as and to use it as, a tool. In a way, social media is a lot like money, enhancing certain aspects of our characters. If we’re self absorbed, it’s selfie central. If we’re humble, we hesitate to post anything that might be construed as boasting, if we post anything at all. But it all happens without us usually ever truly realizing it as it happens. We’ve all seen first hand the infinite possibilities that social media has to affect influence. But maybe, just maybe, we should get off the sidelines and get in the game. Meaning, we should stop just watching and reading the good, we should start being a part of the good, by sharing it with your loved ones, by creating or producing our own videos or blog posts. Get off the sidelines, and be a part of a catalyst for positive change and influence. Social media is your tool and it’s free, simple to use, and everyone is on it. Let us all stop being spectators and start playing the game as influencers and as leaders. Let us all start recognizing and acting on the true potential of what social media could be.

Today is the day.

Lawrence Carson | Living With Intention, Asking Questions, & Passionately Seeking Answers

April 7, 2017

We go places in this episode of Forge Your Potential that we’ve never been before. Not physically, not politically, but mentally and philosophically. We can thank our guest, Lawrence Carson for that. This is an episode you’ll want to stop what you’re doing so that you can listen and keep up with the topics and subjects we cover. You might even want to schedule some time to think, ponder, and reflect after listening to this episode. It’s that deep.

Lawrence shares a bit of his story and what’s brought him to this place of enlightenment. Almost immediately however, we jump into the discussion. From the defining of intellect, to Leonardo Da Vinci’s ‘Mind States’, to the power of not only asking questions but passionately seeking the answers, we go all out. A really interesting concept we bring up in this episode is, to not only know or understand answers to questions you have, but truly being at one with answers. Lawrence elaborates on this concept among a number of others such as breaking conditioned cycles of beliefs that have been ingrained in us by society, the beauty of simply experiencing and living in the moment, the importance of living with intention, and more.

If there was ever a day to challenge your perspectives, it’s today, and it’s in this episode. Listen in, and as Lawrence would say, decorate your soul. Life, what Lawrence calls the University of Learning, is a beautiful and incredible experience, and so many of us are only ever seeing a fraction of the real beauty that out there. We realized that as active as we are in the space of philosophy, there very well just might be a lot we’re missing that we could be enjoying. Tune in and get ready to expand your perspective.

Today is the day.
